About Us
Aura Polyphonica is an auditioned ensemble of approximately 20 singers, ranging in age from their twenties to their eighties. Based in New Brunswick, the group is dedicated to the performance of polyphonic choral music spanning several centuries.
The ensemble rehearses for two and a half hours every Monday evening. Its repertoire focuses primarily on sacred music from the 15th and 16th centuries, while also exploring works from the 14th and 17th centuries. These periods represent remarkably different musical worlds, allowing singers and audiences alike to experience the evolution of vocal music across time. In addition to early music, Aura Polyphonica also performs select modern a cappella compositions.
As a gesture of gratitude to the churches and organizations that have provided rehearsal space over the years, members of Aura Polyphonica have often participated in services and musical events at those venues, giving back to the communities that have welcomed and supported the ensemble.
The name Aura Polyphonica translates to “In the Spirit of Polyphony.”
